GARNER, Iowa (KTTC) – The Iowa DNR is investigating the release of copper near the town of Garner following a broken pipe at the Zinpro facility.
Cleanup efforts are underway.
The agency was notified about the busted pipe around 7:00 a.m. Thursday.
This caused around 700 gallons of copper-containing liquid to be released.
It then flowed into an on-site storm drain, ultimately discharging into a drainage ditch on the west side of the Hancock County facility.
The drainage ditch has been dammed to prevent any further spread of the material.
Reports of dead fish have been confirmed in another nearby drainage ditch.
Residents are advised to avoid contact with the water in this area.
