The UK’s ‘best’ seaside town to move to in 2025 with properties on sale for just £70k | UK | News

    May 31, 20253 Mins Read

A traditional UK seaside town has been hailed as the “best” place for Brits to relocate to. Margate on the Kent coast is a leading holiday destination, with visitors flocking to the area for its old-world charm mixed with 21st Century culture, vintage seaside family fun as well as its theme parks and arcades.

Located on the north east coast of Kent, the historic seaside town was one of the first resorts to embrace mass tourism and it has cleverly retained the nostalgic essence that first made it popular. Margate’s Main Sands has been an iconic British seaside destination since the 18th century thanks to its sweeping golden sandy beach and beachside restaurants and bars alongside arcades to keep the family entertained. The town has a vibrant and thriving independent art gallery scene and studios among the cobbled streets of Margate’s Old Town.

And it seems Margate does have a timeless appeal as it has been named as the UK’s most desirable coastal town for relocation in 2025, according to experts at My Baggage. The iconic town secured the top spot with a relocation score of 98.83, outperforming Yorkshire’s Whitby in second place (97.60) thanks to its 1,846 annual sunlight hours and moderate rainfall (612.64mm).

Brits are also attracted to Margate’s affordability and is considered a relatively affordable seaside town to buy a home in the UK, with properties averaging around 26% cheaper than the average across Kent.

Paul Stewart, CEO of My Baggage, said: “Margate leads convincingly as the UK’s premier coastal relocation destination for 2025. Its first-place ranking in our Coastal Relocation Index demonstrates the perfect balance of affordability, quality of life and seaside charm.

“With impressive annual sunlight hours, moderate rainfall, excellent broadband connectivity and reasonable property prices, Margate represents the ideal coastal lifestyle without the premium costs associated with other seaside locations.”

Buyers can snap up a one bedroom flat just five minutes from the beach for just £70k.

Currently up for sale on Rightmove is a lower ground floor flat with a courtyard garden that is in easy walking distance to Margate’s Sandy beaches. With a price tag of just £70k the one bed flat on Athelstan Road is close to many restaurants and shops.

Also up for sale is a £100k one bedroom flat just 0.6 miles from the beach. Situated close to Dreamland and Margate’s blue flag sandy beach, this property on Eaton Road is just a 10 minute drive away from the neighbouring towns which are Broadstairs, Ramsgate and Birchington.

Margate is a very connected seaside resort – which may be why so many people have relocated to the town in recent years. The high-speed train from London St Pancras takes just one hour and 20 minutes on average.
