Earlier this month Baraga State Park unveiled new playground equipment. The park’s improvement was supported by a grant from the Copper Shores Community Health Foundation. The new features take inspiration from nature for its design. But most importantly, the new playground structure has been rated for ADA accessibility.
While at the unveiling, Baraga State Park Recreation Programmer Kelly Somero said that the park was able to attain the grant funds due in part to the equipment offering an accessible play for campground visitors. The multilevel equipment includes elements that promote sensory and tactile play, a transform platform, and other features for children with mobility aids.
As a part of efforts to increase recreation opportunities within Baraga County the new playground equipment is open to the public. While located inside the Baraga state park anyone with a DNR recreation pass may enter the park and use the playground.
