BRITISH sprinter Amy Hunt has revealed she mouthed an X-rated message to inspire her World Athletics Championships silver medal run last month.

Hunt, 23, put in a superb display in the 200 metres final in Tokyo as she claimed a first global medal of her career.

She finished behind United States runner Melissa Jefferson-Wooden but was overjoyed with her result after struggling with injuries and illness in recent years.

Hunt called her run “sexy and aggressive” at the time as she was left in tears at her achievement.

She finished ahead of Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson in third with a time of 22.14 seconds.

Now she has opened up on what pushed her to the finish line after reciting a message to herself, revealing an “intense” moment she is glad wasn’t picked up by cameras.

Speaking to Spencer Morgan on the Untapped Podcast, she said: “Throughout the 50 minutes I am playing songs in my head, the one I was really listening to was Alter Ego by JT and Doechii, that was a big one for me in the call room.

“By the time we are on the track, I am just thinking about the plan as such and trying to get in the most aggressive mindset.

“There is a lot of swearing going on in my head, I am speaking out loud.

“Because I wasn’t one of the medal contenders at that point, the cameras weren’t really on me.

“I’m just stood there mouthing like ‘go and f***ing kill them’, like to myself, all the time.

“I am thinking ‘thank god the cameras aren’t on me, I look so intense’.

“I knew the cameras weren’t going to be on me so it was fine, but I was thinking ‘god, I look like a right crazy girl right now’.

“I am just trying to get into the mindset to think pure aggression, absolutely no fear, no fear, get out and be as powerful and aggressive as possible.”

The Nottinghamshire-born runner studied English Literature at Cambridge as she balanced education with her athletics career.

She competed alongside her studies until she graduated in 2023 before helping Team GB win silver in the 4×100 women’s relay at the 2024 Olympics.

Hunt said her efforts showed “you can be an academic bad**s and a track goddess”.

Her World Championship result came after a bout of illness in 2021, before having surgery to mend a quadriceps tendon rupture in 2022.

Her struggles left her with burnout and fatigue, while also revealing she had imposter syndrome, which only made her silver medal sweeter.

She said after crossing the finish line: “I’ve not stopped smiling or crying. As soon as I saw my mum I just burst into tears.

“I am so proud of myself, moments before the race I just thought about my grandad. I knew he was watching over me, I knew he was gonna guide me.”

When asked how she would celebrate, she added: “I can’t believe it, maybe some karaoke tonight.”

When asked what she would sing, she said: “Probably Maneater. That’s really boring but I feel like that was the vibe tonight, just sexy and aggressive.”
