Eastern Shore District Court Judge Gordon Vincent has announced his retirement from full-time bench duties this week.
Judge Vincent confirmed to ShoreDailyNews.com via email that his retirement will take effect at the end of this year.
Vincent has presided over various cases, including civil and criminal matters, and is recognized for his commitment to fairness and justice. His rulings and courtroom demeanor were often noted for their professionalism and adherence to the law.
General District Court jurisdiction includes misdemeanors, preliminary hearings in felony cases, traffic cases, and civil cases where the claim is for $50,000 or less. Until a new judge is appointed, cases on Judge Vincent’s docket will be handled by retired and substitute judges.
Appointed to the bench in 2006 by Governor Bob McDonnell, he has served 18 years in this position after succeeding retiring District Court Judge Bobby Phillips. He earned his law degree from the University of Richmond School of Law and practiced privately in Accomac before his appointment.
