A savvy woman has been praised for her energy-saving trick that helped her lower her heating bill, saying it helped prevent cold drafts.

Ofgem recently confirmed a 2.03% rise in the energy price cap from 1 October, pushing the average annual bill to £1,755. This marks a year-on-year increase of 2.21%, meaning costs will be £713 higher than in winter 2020/21, prior to the energy crisis sparked by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. With many already worrying over their energy bills for the winter months, especially as several struggled with heating costs last year, some clever Brits have taken to social media to share their energy-saving hacks that could save hundreds.

One such individual is TikTok user ‘@crafternoons’, who revealed a simple addition to her home has helped her save on energy bills.

“Did you see energy prices are going up again? Don’t worry, I have an interior design hack that will save you money,” she said at the beginning of her video

She continued, explaining as the chillier autumn and winter months approach, she noticed how cold her hallway tiles had become due to the draught from the front door. Despite using a draught excluder on the front door, it hadn’t worked and she’d resorted to buying a pair of slippers to walk on the floor.

“When I’m paying precious pounds for that electricity and gas, I don’t wanna waste it,” she stated.

This year, she’s taken a proactive approach to the cold weather, revealing her latest addition – thermal door curtains.

“Hung just above the door, so it can still open,” she explained. “And here’s the key bit, puddled.”

This clever trick ensures the curtain hangs close to the door, eliminating any chance of a chilly draught infiltrating the rest of the house.

Thermal curtains feature a special lining that blocks out cold winds and draughts from windows and doors, helping to maintain a cosy indoor temperature. While our savvy homeowner chose to hang hers by the door, these curtains can also be used on windows to prevent draughts there too.

During the hot summer months, users have found the curtains are equally effective at keeping hot temperatures at bay, maintaining a cool interior.

The innovative idea was met with praise in the comments section, with many complimenting her choice of curtain.

“They’re stunning,” one person wrote, while another viewer said: “Ok I’m so pleased I saw this because I NEED one of these for my cold flat.

“This looks hard but makes sense,” a third person added.
