LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) – A special event was held Thursday, Oct. 10, at the Lawton Farmers Market aimed at helping veterans who are hanging up their military uniforms and looking to get into the farming business.
The Western Oklahoma Local Agriculture Collaborative (OLAC) workshop set up in the farmers market. They want to assist veterans expand their ag business with things like technical assistance, soil health, infrastructure, financial assistance and more.
“So it’s really important that we reach out to our veterans in these areas, that are starting farms, that are building farms, they may be getting out of the military and looking to stay within the area and become a farmer, they want that lifestyle,” said Gilbert Guerrero, Assistant State Conservationist for Partnerships with USDA.
Applications opened on October 1, and runs until November 1.
If you’re interested, you must be a veteran who separated from the service in the last 10 years.
