Metal Modernism, DJ Sets, Talks & More: tQ at Krankenhaus

    August 8, 20242 Mins Read

John & Luke are firing up the jalopy and heading to the beautiful Muncaster Castle in the Lakes to take part in Sea Power’s always awesome Krankenhaus festival

Dude, Sea Power’s Krankenhaus takes place on the bank holiday weekend of this month and it’s going to be an absolute belter.

For starters, it’s in a castle. By some mountains. The main stage is a barn and you get to watch the bands as chickens wander past. There is a steam train. There are birds of prey. There is a dog contest. You can climb the mountains if you like. There is (according to the email I’ve seen at least) wrestling. There are loads of great DJs, talks and workshops. So help me God, Hey Colossus, BC Camplight, Sea Power, Lawrence, Lias, Nadine effing Shah, the ERC with Maxine Peake, Senyawa, TOTS, Snapped Ankles and THE FALLEN WOMEN are playing!

For those who are now thinking to themselves, ‘Actually, this sounds a little too exciting, I need something to keep me grounded…’ never fear, tQ have you covered. Editor John Doran and artist film maker Sapphire Goss are presenting their ‘live documentary performance’ What Is This That Stands Before Me: Heavy Metal And Modernism – essentially a mix of film, video art, drone music and spoken word – at midday on the Friday (see the trailer below). Also on the day bill are JD talking to Simon Raymonde of the Cocteau Twins and Bella Union about his fabulous new memoir, In One Ear; while Luke Turner is discussing The Sound of Being Human with peerless human, Jude Rogers.

And if that’s not enough John Doran is rounding off both Saturday and Sunday evenings in the Glade, outdoor dance area, with DJ sets; and in an unusual softening of his formerly hardline stance he has agreed to break the habit of a lifetime (as long as people restrict themselves to asking for ‘Baby’s On Fire’ by Marc Riley And The Creepers and/or ‘Lift Off’ by Patrick Cowley).
