Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is set to be released this month, and, barring any major unforeseen circumstances, will give tactical espionage fans something new to tackle, given it won’t be a straight 1:1 remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.
Konami has already shared that we’ll see MGS Delta: Snake Eater be released on August 28, but did you know its review embargo will be lifted a long time before the game’s release?
In this day and age, that’s something of an anomaly, given that most publishers choose to lift the review embargo on games the same day they release, in order to mitigate any sales damage a negative review might entail.
The info comes from content creator Destin, who shows he’s at a review event for the game. According to the YouTuber, the Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater review embargo will be lifted on Friday, August 22, at 12:01 am PT/3:01 am ET. This means that reviews for the game will be out, a full week before the game is even released!
That alone signals to us that Konami is confident that they have a great game in the remake.
In case you’re not familiar with the game, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is a remake of MGS3: Snake Eater that was released during the PS3/Xbox 360 era. Aside from a visual remake on Unreal Engine 5, there will be updated character models, a gameplay overhaul that includes a new camera system, combat enhancements, and more.
When it comes to returning features, creeper mode is confirmed to be back, which we’re not surprised about. When it comes to the mini-games, there was one that showed the apes from Ape Escape. Given Ape Escape is a first-party PlayStation IP, don’t expect these characters to appear in the Xbox version, as they’ve been replaced by Konami characters.
In case you’re looking for something new regarding the franchise, a new co-op mod has been released for Metal Gear V: The Phantom Pain, though it’s only available on PC.
Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater will be available on August 28 on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and don’t be surprised if reviews for the espionage game are positive.
