It’s 2024 and OnePlus made the news with the release of its OnePlus Nord 4. It’s a phone just like every other Nord that the company has released, but it comes with one relatively unique feature (in these modern times). It is the only 5G metal unibody phone in the market right now.
Metal is a big deal these days, as most phones settle for plastic or glass back panels, and they certainly aren’t unibody. To celebrate the release of this “different” device, the Finnish heavy metal band Lordi has made a song, “Made of Metal”, specially for this new smartphone.
I’ve heard of smartphone companies collaborating with car manufacturers, video games, and fashion houses, but collaborations with musical artists is on the rarer side. There was the special edition Samsung Galaxy S20 made in collaboration with BTS, so this OnePlus partnership that I’m here to report on is far from new.
OnePlus and Lordi, a Finnish heavy metal and hard rock band, have joined forces to celebrate the release of the OnePlus Nord 4, the only 5G metal unibody phone in the world right now (and also the first metal unibody phone from a major manufacturer released in a very long time).
No, there’s no special edition Lordi Nord 4, if you were hoping for that. Instead, the band has released a song specially for the phone, called “Made of Metal”. For a heavy metal band, it’ll fit rather snugly into their discography. The song can certainly be enjoyed even if you have no idea it’s about a phone, but like “never settle, I am made of metal” and “now do the math, one plus one” will serve as easter eggs for those in the know.
You can listen to Made of Metal right away on Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, and more. I’m a rock guy, so I enjoyed it, but it worth a listen as a OnePlus fan at the very least. Collaborations like this are rare.
The Lordi Band Members Don’t Hesitate To Strike A Pose With Other OnePlus Devices
Sure, the song was released majorly for the OnePlus Nord 4, but it seems that the Chinese manufacturer didn’t waste the opportunity to get the Lordi band members to pose with some of the other devices recently released into its portfolio. For instance, the OnePlus Pad 2 also comes with a metal build and you could probably argue the song could be for it as much as the Nord 4.
However, it also released with the OnePlus Nord Buds 3 Pro as well as the OnePlus Watch 2R, which once again, the Lordi members decided to show off. Might as well get a full photoshoot with the rest of the family, right?
Maybe we’ll see more quirky partnerships in the future from OnePlus and other companies. I’d sure be excited to.
