Lidl apologises after ‘do not eat’ warning issued due to ‘presence of metal’

    October 18, 20252 Mins Read

Lidl has issued a “do not eat” warning and an apology to its UK shoppers, as it has recalled a popular breakfast product and sweet treat that “may present a risk of injury”.

The budget-friendly supermarket has recalled XXL Sondey Stroopwaffel with Caramel Flavour Filling & Butter because it “may contain metal”, making it unsafe to eat, the Food Standards Agency (FSA) has said.

The batches of XXL Sondey Stroopwaffel with Caramel Flavour Filling & Butter affected are:

    Food Recalls Explained

In a statement, Lidl told its customers: “Lidl GB is recalling the above-mentioned product due to the potential presence of metal foreign bodies, which may present a risk of injury.

“If you have bought the above product, we advise you not to eat it.

“Customers are asked to return this product to the nearest store where a full refund will be given.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your cooperation.”

Point of sale notices will be displayed in all Lidl stores that are selling the recalled XXL Sondey Stroopwaffel with Caramel Flavour Filling & Butter batches.

The FSA advised: “If you have bought the above product do not consume it.

“Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.

“For further information, please contact Lidl Customer Care on customer.care@lidl.co.uk or 0203 966 5566.”

What are FSA product recalls and withdrawals?

The FSA explained: “If there is a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold, then it might be ‘withdrawn’ (taken off the shelves) or ‘recalled’ (when customers are asked to return the product).

“In some cases, a ‘Food Alert for Action’ is issued.
