Agriculture Awards finalists – Machinery Dealer and Supplier

    October 3, 20259 Mins Read

“We’re a small team of four, but everyone plays a key role. I oversee the workshop alongside a full-time mechanic, where we build, service, and repair all our machines in-house. Our van driver handles deliveries, and Jenny keeps the office running smoothly. Customer service is at the heart of what we do, whether it’s a crofter or a large estate owners, we treat everyone the same and aim to keep their vehicles on the road and people happy.

“The business grew out of my time working for a Polaris dealer in Dunkeld. When that franchise ended, I took the plunge, moved to Perth, and within the first year we were named Best New Dealer for Polaris. The following year we won Dealer of the Year, and today we’re proud to be the third best-selling Polaris dealer in the UK.

“Being named a finalist in the Scottish Agriculture Awards is an incredible honour. It’s fantastic to get industry recognition for the hard work of our small but dedicated team, and it’s a proud moment for everyone at Stratton ATV.”

    Stuart Allan, S & J Allan

“We’re a family-run agricultural dealership based in Tarbolton, Ayrshire, covering most of Ayrshire and stretching into Lanarkshire. Since we set up in 2016, we’ve focused on providing quality machinery and exceptional support to our customers.

“We’re the official SlurryKat dealership for the central belt and also stock Kidd Farm Machinery, Stewart Trailers, and used John Deere tractors. Over the last 12 months, we’ve introduced Malone, an Ireland-based company specialising in grassland management, which has allowed us to expand our offerings further.

“Our team of six is central to everything we do. At the heart of our business is customer support and backup service – it’s something we really pride ourselves on. We believe that commitment to our customers has been key to getting us to where we are today.

“Being named a finalist in the Scottish Agriculture Awards is a huge honour for us. To be recognised as a young business after only a few years in the industry is fantastic, and it’s a real testament to the hard work of our whole team. We’ll continue to focus on service, quality machinery and building strong relationships with farmers, and we’re thrilled to be in the running for Machinery Dealer of the Year.”

    Gammies Groundcare, Forfar

“We’re proud to be a machinery dealership based in Forfar, Scotland, with a history stretching back to 1968. Originally focused on agricultural and horticultural machinery, we’ve grown to serve a diverse range of markets across Aberdeenshire, Angus, and the surrounding areas, providing, servicing and repairing machinery for agriculture, horticulture, groundcare, lawn and garden.

“Our depot is built around dedicated departments, including parts, general stores, new and used machinery sales, and a service department with an in-house blacksmith. Everything is designed to support our customers throughout a machine’s lifecycle – from sales to annual servicing, replacement parts and repairs.

“Being named finalists for Machinery Dealer of the Year for a second year in a row is an incredible honour. It shows that we are continuing to grow and adapt to the industry’s challenges while maintaining the high standards of service we strive for.

“Over the past year, we’ve expanded our team with staff who bring fresh expertise and dedication, and we’ve invested in our robotics department, ensuring we can provide reliable sales, installation, service and repair as this area grows. We’re also committed to nurturing the next generation of agricultural mechanics through apprenticeships, giving them hands-on experience across our varied machinery range.

“For all of us at Gammies, being named finalists is a proud moment. It reflects the hard work, expertise and passion of our team, and the dedication we put into supporting our customers every single day.”

Supplier of the Year – Robert Wilson Transport Limited

Robert Wilson said: “Our business is all about transporting agricultural machinery across the UK and Northern Ireland. Most of the time that means taking machines from manufacturers and delivering them to dealers’ yards in Scotland, but we also go direct to farms when needed. Northern Ireland is a big part of the work we do, and we’ll handle any kind of agricultural machinery. If it needs moved, we’ll move it.

“I first started the business back in 1990. Over the years it has grown steadily, but we’ve always kept it relatively small and family-run. That’s how I like it. There’s myself and five drivers out on the road, and my wife Lesley keeps the office running smoothly. It works well – we know our customers, they know us, and they know exactly who they’re dealing with.

“Another part of the job we really enjoy is setting up stands at the Highland Show, AgriScot and other major industry events. We’ve been doing that for years for a lot of our customers, and it’s always good to be part of those shows and see the machinery we’ve delivered put on display.

“One of the best things about this line of work is the number of people we’ve met and the contacts we’ve built up over the years. Between dealers and farmers, we’ve made so many connections and genuine friendships. The people in this industry are fantastic, and it’s a privilege to be part of it. Honestly, there’s nothing else I would rather be doing.

“To be nominated for these awards came as a bit of a surprise, but we’re absolutely delighted. It feels like a recognition of all the effort that’s gone in over the years, not just from me but from Lesley and all the drivers too. We’re very much looking forward to awards night – it will be a special occasion for us all.”

    Agrii

Head of agronomy (Scotland), Greig Baird, explained: “Agrii is proud to be the leading inputs company for agronomy customers, providing practical solutions to the challenges farmers face every day. We’re not just about supplying products – we’re about giving advice, providing support, and helping farmers succeed in the long term. Because we’re part of a wider UK and European business, we’re able to bring in expertise and knowledge from right across the industry, stretching into Romania and Poland as well. Next year, we’ll be celebrating 15 years in business, which is a real milestone for us.

“What makes Agrii stand out is our national network of more than 300 BASIS-qualified agronomists. Every one of them delivers independent advice backed by real-world trials and on-farm experience. That means farmers can trust that the solutions we’re offering genuinely work in practice, not just in theory. Here in Scotland, our work is very much at the heart of Agrii. Advice and supply are the backbone of what we do, and alongside that we also run a large contract fleet of sprayers so we can apply products directly for our customers when needed.

“For us, it’s all about long-term relationships. We believe in tailoring advice to each farm, building trust, and keeping standards consistently high across every service we provide. Over time, that approach has allowed us to build a loyal customer base and to be seen as a reliable partner in Scottish agriculture.

“That’s why this nomination means so much. It isn’t just about one part of the business – it’s recognition of every single person involved, from our agronomists on the ground to the teams working behind the scenes. Personally, I see it as a huge accolade and a real pat on the back for the entire business. Everyone at Agrii should feel proud, because this nomination belongs to all of us. We’re genuinely excited to be finalists and we’re really looking forward to the awards night, celebrating alongside so many others who contribute so much to this industry.”

    East of Scotland Farmers

On their nominations, general manager Neil McInnes said: “In essence, we are a cooperative, and everything we do comes back to that principle.

“The business is split into different facets, but at its heart it’s a grain co-op that has been serving Tayside, Angus and Perthshire for generations. Today we have more than 300 members, and that membership has grown steadily over the years as we’ve adapted and evolved to meet the changing needs of our farming community. At the most basic level, we provide grain storage and handling services, but it goes much further than that. We also run a retail store in Coupar Angus, which provides a vital service for members and has become an important part of what we do.

“The business has been trading for just over 70 years now, and over that time it has seen many changes, but the spirit of cooperation and the sense of being member-driven has always remained the same. One of the things I take huge pride in is our workforce. We are very fortunate to have a long-standing and highly committed team of people. Most of our staff have been with us for at least ten years, which in itself says a lot about the culture here. At present we employ 24 people, and every single one of them plays a crucial role in making the business what it is. Their knowledge, dedication and loyalty are the foundation of our success.

“That’s why this nomination means so much to us. The entire team is absolutely delighted to be recognised in this way. It feels like a real testament to all the effort that goes on behind the scenes, as well as the work that happens on the front line. Whether it’s the customer-facing staff in the store or those dealing with the grain side of the operation, everyone has contributed to this achievement. They are elated and proud, and I think rightly so.

“At the end of the day, it’s their hard work and their dedication, day in and day out, that keeps the business thriving. This recognition is not just about the co-op itself, it’s about the people who make it work. For me, that’s the most important thing. Their commitment and passion is what has carried the business forward for more than seven decades, and it’s what will continue to drive us into the future.”
