- A historic town in North Lanarkshire has been named as the top property hotspot in the UK for 2026 according to Zoopla. The experts shared a roundup of the 10 postcodes that have the highest prospects, based on home prices, the amount of properties that have been on the market for more than six months, and other factors.
- Placing at number one on Zoopla’s roundup of the hottest property markets in the UK is Motherwell, around 12 miles outside of Glasgow. The average price of a house in the town, which has a population of around 33,000, is £134,700 according to the property experts.
- Motherwell was once an important centre for steel and coal, previously being home to the famous Ravenscraig steelworks. It is today a popular place to live due to its close proximity to Scotland’s largest city and for attractions and beauty spots such as the North Lanarkshire Heritage Centre and Strathclyde Country Park.
- Overall, Scotland dominates the top 10 housing markets for 2026 according to Zoopla. Following Motherwell in first place, eight out of the remaining nine top 10 spots are situated in Scotland—with Wigan in Greater Manchester being the only English destination to appear.
