Taiwan Commits to Boosting Partnerships in Indonesia’s Agricultural Sector

    November 27, 20252 Mins Read

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Head of the Taipei Economic and Trade Office (TETO) Representative, Bruce Hung, expressed Taiwan‘s commitment to enhancing its partnerships with Indonesia in various sectors, especially agriculture.

“Taiwan is committed to being a reliable partner in Indonesia’s development. We are enthusiastic about exploring opportunities for cooperation in the fields of agriculture, technology, education, talent development, and other areas,” said Hung at the Taiwan Technical Mission (TTM) Achievements Showcase in Jakarta on Thursday, November 27, 2025, as reported by Antara.

Commencing his address at the Taiwan Technical Mission Achievements Showcase, Bruce stated that since its establishment in 1976, the Taiwan Technical Mission (TTM) in Indonesia has significantly supported the country’s agriculture.

This support has been provided through cultivation techniques to enhance the quality of agricultural products for farmers across Indonesia.

With the support from the Taiwan Technical Mission, local farmers in Karawang have continually improved their cultivation techniques and product quality. As a result, more vegetable products are now being shipped from local farmers to other areas such as Jakarta.

This support has significantly increased farmers’ income, Hung stated.

In North Sumatra, TTM also collaborated with farmers to improve the yield and quality of garlic and shallots produced in the region.

Amid ongoing global challenges to food security, President Prabowo has actively promoted Indonesia’s national policy for food self-sufficiency.

“In line with this direction, Taiwan will launch two new projects with Indonesia next year in South Sulawesi and West Java. These projects will focus on corn and vegetable seed production to strengthen the marketing system,” Hung said.

Hung also mentioned that the close partnership between Indonesia and Taiwan has increased the number of Indonesian citizens living in Taiwan to 400,000.

“They are our neighbors, colleagues, and family. Their presence nurtures relations that go beyond government cooperation. Instead, these relationships are rooted in warm and sincere interpersonal connections,” he added.

Therefore, during the occasion, Hung reaffirmed his commitment to remaining Indonesia‘s trusted partner and expressed interest in exploring additional cooperation opportunities in various fields.
