ENTERPRISE, Ala. (WTVY) -Enterprise State Community College broke ground on a new center.
As local and state dignitaries gathered to celebrate a major addition to Enterprise State, the school’s president is glad to have seen this day come.
“We have been talking about this concept for about five years now and to really see it come to a reality and see the construction progress just means the world,” Daniel Long, ESCC’s president said.
ESCC is getting a Workforce Technology Center to provide the instructional space to train generations of Alabama’s workforce to come.
“We are going to have a welding program inside the center, automotive technology, HVAC, plumbing, a whole umbrella of skills that are taught in our advanced manufacturing, known as mechatronics. Just really excited that we are going to be able to serve our business and industries and help with the workforce in the wiregrass,” Long said.
Workforce development has been a major focus point for all levels of education as well as for lawmakers.
Enteprise’s own, U.S. Senator Katie Britt said the impact of this center will be meaningful to the city and beyond.
” am so proud of what they are doing here today. Investing in workforce training will change the lives and change what is possible for people all across the Wiregrass. They are going to make sure that when it comes to job openings, and good paying jobs, our community is ready with the skill set needed to make good on that and ultimately achieve their American dream and be able to provide for their families which is what this is all about,” Britt said.
Long said the center will be especially important for the local workforce.
“What we know is that most students that come to community college, if they live, they learn, and train there, they stay there. So most of the students that we are educating are going to live, work, and play in the cities that our community colleges are,” Long said.
