    What are the most dangerous cities in Louisiana? Study shows 10 crime rates

    The state of Louisiana has a relatively high crime rate, particularly for violent crime, with the state ranking fifth for violent crime rates.

    Louisiana has a violent crime rate of approximately 548 offenses occurring for every 100,000 people, according to USA Facts.

    Louisiana’s combined crime rate is 3,389 per 100,000 residents, and the violent crime rate is 66.5% higher than the national average, according to Omega Law Group.

    Top 10 most dangerous cities in Louisiana for 2025 according to Reolink

    In order to find out the ten most dangerous cities in Louisiana, Reolink has compared and ranked areas based on the violent crime rate per 100,000 residents.

    1. Marksville

    Marksville is considered the most dangerous city in Louisiana, as statistics exceed the statewide average four times, with violent crime occurring at a rate of 2,209 per 100,000 individuals. The criminal rate for property offenses, which includes burglary and theft, as well as motor vehicle theft, in this area measures approximately 5,628 per 100,000 people.

    Marksville residents ricks a one in 13 chance of falling victim to crime, since violent crime counts to 0.22 per day and property crime totals reach 0.66 incidents per day. Marksville experiences high crime numbers because of its low economic standing, combined with jobless residents and insufficient police departments, says Reolink.

    2. Monroe

    In Monroe, the violent crime rate reaches 2,104 incidents per 100,000 residents, with the total number of property crimes in the city reaching 6,048 per 100,000 people. Figures show 211 vehicle thefts representing 450 per 100,000 residents, as well as various counts of burglaries and thefts.

    Residents in Monroe experience a risk level of one violent crime victimization in 48 possible instances, along with one property crime occurring within every 17 potential events. Community surveys show that overnight time is dangerous, since over four-fifths of residents avoid walking alone after dark, according to Reolink.

    3. Alexandria

    Alexandria has a violent crime rate of 1,972 per 100,000 residents, which surpasses the state average by 260%. Throughout Alexandria, property crimes reach 6,394 per 100,000 residents, with various burglary offenses, theft cases and automobile theft incidents observed among residents. The population, which is approximately 47,000, experiences 5.4 violent crimes and 14 property crimes every day, says Reolink.

    4. Opelousas

    The violent crime rate in Opelousas reaches 1,680 crimes per 100,000 residents, which exceeds statewide statistics by 300% or more. The crime statistics for theft combined with burglary and motor vehicle theft in the city amounts to a rate of 5,762 per 100,000 residents. Over 60 per 100 residents will face violent crime each year, and 17 among 100 people will face property crime incidents annually, according to Reolink.

    5. New Orleans

    Louisiana’s largest city, New Orleans, reports violent crimes at a rate of 1,361 per 100,000 residents, which is 148% more than the statewide average. Property offenses in New Orleans reach rates of 5,090 per 100,000 residents, with burglaries and auto thefts being primary offenses. Statistics for the city reveal that 3.73 violent crimes and 13.95 property crimes occur daily per 100,000 residents, says Reolink.

    6. West Monroe

    West Monroe’s violent crime rate almost matches New Orleans’ exactly, with a rate of 1,359 crimes per 100,000 residents. The combined rate of property offenses, which include larceny and auto theft, reaches 5,895 incidents per 100,000 residents. The likelihood of experiencing violent crime in this city sits at a one in 74, and property crime at one in 17, according to Reolink.

    7. Bogalusa

    The city of Bogalusa experiences 1,231 violent crimes per 100,000 residents, which exceeds the statewide average by 125%. The total number of property offenses, including burglary and car theft, comes to 4,117 per 100,000 residents. Violent crime incidents occur once to 81 residents, and property crime incidents occur once to every 24 individuals, says Reolink.

    8. Jennings

    Jennings, Louisiana records 1,012 violent crimes per 100,000 residents, and this rate exceeds the statewide average by 85%. The property crime rate reaches 4,880 per 100,000 residents, with this rate including over a thousand residential break-ins along with 50 vehicle thefts. Jennings residents experience a 1% chance of encountering violent crime, while chances of property crime are at 5% rate, according to Reolink.

    9. Baton Rouge

    Louisiana’s state capitol, Baton Rouge, records 1,004 violet crimes per 100,000 residents, which is around 83% above the statewide average. Residents experience a 5,526 per 100,000 instance of property crime, which averages 1,244 burglaries, 3,943 thefts and 435 vehicle thefts per 100,000 residents. Residents have a one in 100 probability of experiencing a violent offense and a one in 18 chance of experiencing a property offense, says Reolink.

    10. Bossier City

    Last is Bossier City, which reports 911 violent crimes per 100,000 residents, equating to 66% above the statewide average. Weapons offenses represent 4,570 instances per 100,000 residents, along with various property crimes such as larceny, burglary and automobile theft. Violent crime and property crime statistics come to one out of 110 residents, and one out of 22 residents experience property offenses, according to Reolink.
