    As the US Election 2024 is on the horizon, over 100 lawsuits have been filed by the Republican National Committee (RNC) in concern with state voting rules. In contrast, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and various civil rights organizations are concerned these legal actions could disenfranchise eligible voters, as per a report.

    Legal actions by Republicans focus on issues such as ensuring absentee ballots are counted only if they arrive by Election Day and enforcing requirements like dating mailed ballots. The RNC believes that these efforts are necessary to uphold election integrity, claiming that current practices in states like Pennsylvania and North Carolina violate the law, USA Today reported.

    Democrats and civil rights organizations are actively seeking to challenge these restrictions and prevent any sudden changes to election rules. The RNC claims their lawsuits aim to uphold the law, with RNC Chairman Michael Whatley criticizing certain state practices for undermining electoral integrity. As noted by Sean Morales-Doyle from the Brennan Center for Justice, this year has seen an unprecedented amount of litigation regarding election matters.

    Mississippi: Absentee Ballot Deadline Case

    A legal battle in Mississippi with regards to absentee ballot deadlines may reach the Supreme Court, which has the potential to affect the voting rights across the nation. Mississippi allows mailed ballots postmarked by Election Day to be counted if they arrive within five days. The RNC argues this violates federal law that states voting ends on Election Day, while county officials say ballots must be cast by that date but can arrive later.     Georgia: Certification Delays from New Rules

    In Georgia, multiple lawsuits could impact the timely certification of county election results. A new rule requires manual hand counts of ballots in thousands of precincts. The DNC and Georgia Democratic Party argue the state legislature did not authorize this change, which could cause delays and confusion. Additionally, two county election boards are suing over the hand-count rule. Democrats seek to ensure that the certification deadline remains firm, as last-minute changes may disrupt the election process.

    Pennsylvania: Absentee Ballot Errors

    Pennsylvania faces significant cases regarding errors on absentee ballots. Earlier, the state Apex Court ruled that ballots with missing or incorrect dates should not be taken into account, but the American Civil Liberties Union(ACLU) has requested the U.S. Supreme Court to review this ruling, claiming it violates civil rights laws.     North Carolina: Voter ID Requirements

    In North Carolina, a legal battle over voter registration identification requirements could affect 225,000 voters. The RNC argues that the State Board of Elections has not enforced ID rules, allowing potential noncitizen registrations.
