The UK seaside village where you can buy super cheap houses for just over £100k | UK | News

    May 16, 20252 Mins Read

Being a set of islands, the UK is full of seaside towns and villages, and houses in some of them are very attainable. One such place is Easington in a former mining area in County Durham on the north east coast.

Conveniently located at the junction of the A182 and B1283, it only had a population of 2,499 in 2021, according to that year’s Census. Zoopla states that the average sold price for a property in Easington Village in the last 12 months is £115,398. Whereas, in August 2024, Rightmove calculated that the average asking price for a property in the area was £122,520. The same site says on its website at the moment that house prices in Easington have an overall average of £101,422 over the last year. It adds that the majority of properties sold in Easington during the last year were terraced properties, selling for an average price of £70,424.

Detached properties sold for an average of £217,748, with semi-detached properties fetching £117,423.

Meanwhile, the historical sold prices in Easington over the last year overall were 16% down on the previous year and 24% down on the 2021 peak of £134,015.

On Zoopla there was a house listed with three bedrooms, one bathroom and three reception rooms for less than £100,000 – £99,999.

A different property, with one bathroom, one reception room and two bedrooms was listed for a very reasonable £109,950.

Another with the same rooms was on the market for £107,000.

Other options include three bedroom properties for £145,000 and £159,000.

If you wanted to own a listed building, there’s a Grade II categorised 13th century barn conversion available for £230,000.

The description reads: “Welcome to The Farmhouse, a captivating 13th-century Grade II listed cottage located in the charming Easington Village.

“This historic property, offered with no onward chain, seamlessly combines timeless character with modern comforts, making it a truly unique home.

“The Farmhouse features two double bedrooms, each with its own en suite, and retains much of its original charm with delightful exposed stone walls that speak to its rich heritage.”
