Staffordshire Police have appealed for information on two deliberate arson attacks at a business property in Sugarloaf Lane, Iverley, that left two horses dead.

Both fires took place less than a week apart, and saw two barn buildings and a stable destroyed.

The first incident took place at 12.15am on Friday, September 26, and saw emergency services attend following reports of a stable fire.

On arrival, the teams discovered a ‘large stable’ that was well alight, with the fire service quickly extinguishing the blaze. Once the flames had cleared, however, it was found that two horses had died.

A Staffordshire Police spokesperson said: “We were called at 12.15am on Friday to a business off Sugarloaf Lane, Iverley, following reports of a stable fire.

“Officers attended the scene alongside colleagues from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service and found a large stable well alight.

“The fire was extinguished, but sadly, two horses died.”

The second blaze took place at around 12.15am on Monday, September 29, and saw crews again respond to the business.

This time, the fire involved two barn buildings.

The fire was extinguished, and nobody was injured as a result of the blaze.

The spokesperson added: “We were then called at 12.15am yesterday to a farm off Sugarloaf Lane, Iverley, following reports of a fire. Officers attended the scene and found two barns well alight.

“The fire was extinguished by colleagues at Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service. Thankfully, nobody was reported injured.”

Now, Staffordshire Police has confirmed that both fires were started deliberately, with an investigation ongoing to find those involved.

A force spokesperson said: “We are appealing for information following two deliberate fires in south Staffordshire.

“The causes of both fires were deemed deliberate, and our investigation is ongoing.”

Anyone with information, CCTV or doorbell footage is asked to contact Staffordshire Police via their 101 number, or the Live Chat service on their website, quoting reference 6 of 29 September.
