KINGSTON, N.Y. — City lawmakers unanimously approved the sale of a city-owned property at 168 Fairview Ave. to a private individual.
The Common Council approved by an 8-0 vote the sale of the property for $85,000 to Hernan Mera at its August meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 6. Robert Dennison, D-Ward 6, was absent for the proceedings.
Bartek Starodaj, the city’s Director of Housing initiatives told lawmakers in July that Mera was the top bidder at a public auction that took place Thursday, June 6, at City Hall. He added that Mera plans to use the property for his own use.
A description on Realtor.com said the property contains a 2-bed, 1 bath 921 square foot single-family home built in 1940.
Sara Pasti, D-Ward 1, said at Monday’s Common Council Caucus meeting that she was excited that the long-vacant property brought in such a high sum of money.
She said previously in July that she believes neighbors will be relieved to see something happening with it after a long time.
Starodaj said Mera paid the city 10% of the sale price at closing and will pay the remainder at closing.
