Address: 6 Cherokee Lane, Covington, 70433
    Sales price: $1.97 million
    List price: $1.95 million
    Date sold: Aug. 12
    Days on Market: 1
Listing agents: Molly Koenig and Margot Rainold, M&M Residential, McEnery Residential, LLC
Sales agent: Polly Eagan, Keller Williams Realty

A rare offering of a five-acre, waterfront country estate on the cul-de-sac of Cherokee Lane has sold for $1.97 million. The location near downtown Covington, access to the Little Bogue Falaya, and newly renovated home that includes a lagoon-style pool, tennis court, bourbon tasting room, and chicken coup (chickens included) certainly sweeten the deal.

The country estate at 6 Cherokee Lane, originally built in 1986, features 5 bedrooms, 4 ½ bathrooms, and 5,586 square feet of living space. The listing agents on the Aug. 12 transaction were Molly Koenig and Margot Rainold, Realtors with M&M Residential of McEnery Residential, LLC. The sales agent was Polly Eagan, Realtor with Keller Williams Realty.

“6 Cherokee Lane is such a hidden gem on the edge of downtown Covington. My clients moved into the home in 2020 and put in beautiful renovations, professionally designed and decorated, and updated to modern amenities, while maintaining its historical charm,” said Koenig. “Cherokee Lane is a private street where homes rarely come on the market because they are passed down to generations and they are desirable properties. You feel like you’re in a peaceful, country setting, but you’re also minutes from a vibrant downtown Covington community. You can’t beat the uniqueness of the property and the benefit of the location.”

Eagan said 6 Cherokee Lane is one of seven homes in the area to sell for over $1 million this year, speaking to the testament of the desired location and properties. The home also went under contract within 24 hours.

“My client is a New Orleans girl who has been away for decades, wanted to move back, desired Covington because she has family on the Northshore, and she was enthralled by the property and community,” said Eagan. “She has four grown boys who are very active, so they have a pool, cabana, guest wing, fishing and kayaking access, five bedrooms, and entertainment space for gatherings. The home is A. Hays Town inspired architecture that is not often on the market.”

6 Cherokee Lane features an expansive floor plan with a separate guest wing that has its own den, and a separate primary suite wing with a bourbon room that has imported mahogany paneled walls and custom built-ins.

The chef’s kitchen features a cathedral-style ceiling, large butcher block island, Viking range with double ovens, Subzero fridge, quartz counters, custom hand-painted backsplash tile, and a coffee/wine nook. There are heart of pine floors and floor-to-ceiling wood windows throughout.

“This home has windows for days, providing so much natural light and views everywhere you turn,” said Koenig. “This home is Acadian architecture at its best with original charm, but with modern amenities and updates, all providing that rare balance of elegance and comfort. The renovations were really impeccable to bring new life onto this property.”

The exterior features landscaping, fountains, lagoon-style pool with cabana, 910-square-foot pool/guest house with similar charm as the main house with cathedral ceilings, fireplace, full kitchen, sunroom, living/bedroom and loft, an original tennis court that could be brought back to life as a pickleball court, and a chicken coup, with the chickens remaining on the property. There is a clear path that provides a stroll through the woods, down to the water.

“It’s just such a unique waterfront property that has everything you could want. It was well maintained, move-in ready, priced appropriately, and in a location that’s booming right now,” said Koenig. “Downtown Covington is continuing to thrive on being a work, live, shop, dine, and play community, and the market is benefitting from that.”
