Henrik Kjellberg, who has been CEO of UK-based property management company Awaze since 2018, left the company Friday.
He announced his exit on LinkedIn, and ShortTermRentalz also reported the news.
Neither Kjellberg — nor separately, a company spokesperson — gave a reason for his exit. Kjellberg made an oblique reference to “a new chapter to be written.”
“We can confirm that Henrik Kjellberg will be leaving Awaze at the end of this month,” an Awaze spokesperson said. “During his six years as CEO Henrik has cemented the company’s position as Europe’s leading vacation rental management business; expanding Awaze’s product portfolio, modernizing its technology stack, and strengthening our guest and owner experiences. He has helped build very strong foundations for the long-term success of Awaze and we are very excited about 2025 and further strengthening our partnerships with homeowners and guests.”
Chief Financial Officer Matthew Price will head the company until it names a new CEO, the spokesperson said.
Vacation Rental Consolidation in Europe
The news comes amidst published reports and rumors about consolidation to come in the European vacation rental market. In particular, HomeToGo is poised to acquire Interhome, according to these reports and a source.
Kjellberg assumed the CEO post in September 2018, a few months after Platinum Equity acquired Wyndham’s European vacation rental biz for $1.3 billion, and the company rebranded it as Awaze.
Awaze is widely considered the largest property manager in Europe. Its brands include Hoseasons, Novasol, Cottages.com, and Fincallorca.
