KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – The Kansas City Pet Project rescued 31 animals from a property littered with trash, animal carcasses and dead birds.
The animals — eight ducks, six roosters, eight hens, eight cats and one pigeon — were surrendered by their owner, who will be issued citations for multiple violations, including failure to provide adequate care. Authorities said the owner also has outstanding warrants related to prior animal-related offenses.
The KC Pet Project said a duck had to be euthanized because of its injuries and a kitten also died. Several of the cats are sick and receiving medical attention.
Animal Services officers were called to the area about potential neglect of the animals and found signs of neglect, including inadequate housing and no access to water or ventilation.

Tori Fugate, the chief communications officer of KC Pet Project, said the organization has already found placement for most of the birds.
“We are grateful to our officers who continued to investigate this case and glad to have these animals in our care now,” Fugate said, “where they will receive the attention and love they deserve.”
Officers will continue to visit the property in an attempt to capture more animals that couldn’t be captured Tuesday.
