A popular Booster Gold casting rumor has popped up online yet again, thanks to the Peacemaker Season 2 premiere.
What is the new Booster Gold rumor?
At the Peacemaker Season 2 premiere, cameras caught actor Kumail Nanjiani and DC Studios co-head James Gunn chatting it up and embracing. On one particular social media thread, a fan shared pessimism about the photo due to the rumor that Nanjiani had been rumored to play the character.
In reply, Apocalyptic Horseman, a social media user who is known as an insider, replied to the post in question that “it’s happening,” seeming to suggest that Nanjiani would in fact be playing Booster Gold.
Nanjiani’s casting as Booster Gold has been rumored for some time now. Last year, the rumor began circulating, with no official confirmation coming. When asked about it in interviews, Gunn seemed to skirt the topic. It’s also unclear when a Booster Gold project is coming, as Gunn has a lot on his plate in the DCU moving forward.
Created by writer/artist Dan Jurgens, Booster Gold debuted in Booster Gold #1 in February 1986 as Michael Jon Carter, a disgraced college football star from the year 2442 who steals time-traveling technology and journeys back to modern day in search of fame and fortune by staging various heroics as the superhero Booster Gold. The character eventually becomes a legit hero in the DC Comics Universe, going on to join the Justice League.
Booster Gold has appeared in several animated films and series, notably Justice League Unlimited and Justice League Action. A variation of the superhero also appeared in the series finale of Legends of Tomorrow, played by Donald Faison.
A live-action Booster Gold series was announced in January 2023 by DC Studios as part of the first wave of DC Universe content. While not much has been officially revealed about the series since then, Gunn recently offered a much-needed update on the project during a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.
