MIAMI – One minute a prisoner, was at Jackson Memorial Hospital’s main emergency room complaining of chest pain, and the next he was fleeing in a silver Maserati on Saturday, in Miami-Dade County, police said.
According to Detective Angel Rodriguez, a spokesman for the Miami-Dade Police Department, a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agent at the SeaPort reported Theodrick Rama Collins had several warrants for his arrest, so a police officer responded.
According to Rodriguez, Collins, 36, was in Miami-Dade police custody when he complained of chest pain, and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel responded and took him to JMH for a medical evaluation where he was medically cleared.
“The MDPD officer was in the process of transporting him to MDPD Warrants Bureau, when the prisoner, who was handcuffed, escaped to an awaiting newer model Silver Maserati, bearing Alabama tag GBT862 that fled the scene,” Rodriguez wrote in a statement.
Several law enforcement agencies were searching for Collins when Rodriguez reported that a license plate reader detected the Maserati in Jupiter. Police officers released a copy of Collins’s Alabama driver’s license listing his residence as Montgomery.
