A James Street, Albouystown landlord whose three buildings were destroyed in Thursday’s devastating fire says he has suffered losses of nearly $80 million and is calling on the authorities to take urgent action against the burning of copper wire, which he believes triggered the blaze.
Mohamed Benn, 59, said the fire displaced at least seven of his tenants and left him with nothing but his passport and a few documents he managed to grab before the flames consumed everything.
“I was only able to save my passport and some important papers before the fire took everything. The person responsible has shown no remorse for me or the lives displaced,” Benn told the Sunday Stabroek.
