It opening night of 70th Gold Cup Race of Champions race week for the Kubota High Limit Racing tour Thursday, which hosted the first of two prelims ahead of Saturday’s $100,070-to-win Crown Jewel at California’s Silver Dollar Speedway.
California’s own Corey Day came from the eighth-starting position to notch his sixth High Limit win of 2024, leading 22 of 30 laps and topping Spencer Bayston by 1.175 seconds in the process.
Day and Bayston emerged as the two high-point drivers from Thursday, locking themselves into Saturday’s dash. California’s Chase Johnson led the opening six laps but finished third, while Chris Windom and Shane Golobic rounded out the top-five.
