The Delhi Police recently arrested a truck driver and his associates for allegedly orchestrating the robbery of a copper scrap consignment.
Manish Kumar filed a complaint with the Delhi Police, claiming that he was robbed while ferrying a 6,000 kg copper scrap consignment from Libaspur to Madoli in his truck on September 9.
“As per his complaint, at around 11 am, a Swift car intercepted his truck on Ring Road. The occupants of the vehicle claimed to be bank officials and insisted that the truck be stopped due to pending loan instalments,” said DCP (Crime) Harsh Indora, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime).
Kumar claimed that two men forced their way into the truck and injected him with a substance, rendering him unconscious. When he regained consciousness at Jag Parvesh Chandra Hospital, he promptly called the police, as per his complaint.
Almost 48 hours later, the Crime Branch arrested Kumar as they found out that he had diverted the investigation by playing the victim.
“The team analysed over 200 CCTV footages and scrutinised the call records of various suspects. During the course of the investigation, one of the accused, Aditya, was arrested. His call records showed frequent contact with Kumar,” a police officer said.
When the police presented Aditya’s confession to Kumar, he eventually gave in. Kumar told the police that a scrap dealer named Arun Soni had approached him and promised a share of the proceeds if he allowed himself to be robbed.

Soni’s plan, according to the police, was that another man, Ramzan, along with Aditya, was to intercept Kumar’s vehicle. Ramzan, who knew about injections and sedatives, would administer a chemical to render Kumar unconscious. Kumar would then be taken to a hospital, where he would file the complaint himself, said the police.
On Aditya’s instance and CCTV footage, the other two accused, Ramzan and Soni, were arrested on Thursday from Kotla Vihar, the police said, adding that they have recovered the copper junk and begun an investigation.
