Aldi Australia has been heralded by wine aficionados after several of their bargain drops were recognised at a recent prestigious awards ceremony.
And one of the prize winning wines clocked in at under five bucks per bottle.
The bargain supermarket chain emerged victorious at the recent Melbourne International Wine Competition, with a number of their wines receiving awards in the Double Gold, Gold, Silver and Bronze categories.
At the ceremony, Aldi Australia picked up an astonishing 18 awards for wines stocked nationwide at their stores.
Even more impressively, each and every one of those winners can be purchased at the budget supermarket for under $14 per bottle.
But the drop that astonished wine connoisseurs most was the Gold-winning South Point Estate Pinot Grigio, which is available at Aldi for the rock-bottom price of $4.59.
The crisp wine with its pale colouring and fruity aroma is described as being ideal for enjoying during the warmer months.
Produced out of central Victoria, South Point Estate is a private label wine sold exclusively at Aldi Australia.

In recent years, Aldi’s private label wines have earned a reputation for both affordability and quality. They’ve regularly emerged as surprise prize winners, even when pitted against far more pricey wine competition.
At this year’s Melbourne International Wine Competition, the major Double Gold category saw three Aldi wines named among the list of top prize recipients.
This included Corte Carista Delle Venezie Pinot Grigio, priced at $9.99 per bottle, Blackstone Paddock Shiraz at $12.99 per bottle and EL Toro Macho Bobal Tempranillo Reserva, which costs $8.99.
These Aldi wines were named Double Gold Australian winners alongside other wines like the Burton Valley Head Over Heels Pinot Noir, which sells for $10, Winton Road Eden Valley Chardonnay, which costs $20, and Old Testament Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon, which is priced at $22.50.
In the Gold category, Aldi’s South Point Estate Pinot Grigio was recognised alongside eight other Aldi wines.
This included the yet to be released Blackstone Paddock Limited Release Chardonnay.
The other Aldi white wines that received a Gold Award were the Freya & Jules Riesling $9.99, Kaiora Bay Reserve Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc $12.99 and the Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc priced at $9.99.
There was also an Aldi rosé Gold winner in the Loire Valley Cabernet Franc Rosé, which sells for $9.99.

Three Aldi wines were winners of the competition’s major award, the Double Gold. They were (from L-R) Blackstone Paddock Shiraz $12.99, Corte Carista Delle Venezie Pinot Grigio $9.99 and EL Toro Macho Bobal Tempranillo Reserva $8.99
There were also four Aldi red wines that snapped up a Gold award. They were Corte Carista Chianti Superiore DOC $11.99, Freya & Jules Shiraz $12.99, The Venturer Series Durif $7.99 and Truly Wildly Premium Bodied Shiraz $13.99.

Aldi Australia’s Wine Buying Director Jason Bowyer was over the moon at this year’s results.
‘We’re proud to be celebrating another incredible year of ALDI wines continuing to impress and win accolades at the Melbourne International Wine Competition,’ said Jason.
‘These outstanding awards are a testament to the exceptional quality of our wines, sourced both locally and abroad, and highlights the incredible value we’re able to offer ALDI shoppers.’

The supermarket chain also won the best Italian Pinot Grigio Wine of the Year for Corte Carista Delle Venezie Pinot Grigio 2024 $9.99 and best Italian Chianti of the Year for Corte Carista Chianti Superiore DOC $11.99.
