Whoopi Goldberg Shares Thoughts On Retirement

During a recent interview to promote The View Season 28, Goldberg didn’t indicate any plans to slow down or take a step back from show business anytime soon. However, her reason isn’t simply because she loves her job.

“Who can afford to do that? You know if you don’t marry well, you gotta keep working,” she expressed to Entertainment Tonight.

The reporter suggested that Goldberg could most likely afford to retire, which only caused Goldberg to double down on her initial response. “No, not by now. Not yet,” The View host spilled. “I gotta keep paying those bills, baby.”

Another reason Goldberg isn’t ready to hang it up yet is because of her stellar, lengthy career. It’s a big deal to be still doing her thing in the entertainment industry at her age.

“I have gotten older, and now I am kind of proud that I actually got this far,” Goldberg shared.

Goldberg’s work schedule has slowed down slightly. She only shoots four episodes of The View a week, as opposed to five like Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines,Alyssa Farah Griffin, and Ana Navarro.

Whoopi Goldberg Earns Backlash Over Financial Struggle Comments

This isn’t the first time that Goldberg has alluded to needing money and struggling financially. In November 2024, she revealed on The View that times were tough for her, just like other people.

“I appreciate that people are having a hard time. Me, too. I work for a living. If I had all the money in the world, I would not be here, OK? So, I’m a working person, you know?” She stated.

Goldberg’s remarks earned her some backlash. The comments section of the clip on YouTube was flooded with fan responses.

“Sweetie, you do have all the money in the world
. You don’t have to work !!!! You don’t know what it is like to HAVE TO WORK!!!! Maybe you need a reality check!!!!,” said a fan.

Another fan stated, “Whoopi is so out of touch!” and a different fan declared, “Her comments are not appropriate.”

As Parade reported, Goldberg earns $8 million per season of the ABC talk show and is worth an estimated $30 million.

The View airs weekdays on ABC.
