R Ashwin Namedrops MS Dhoni In Honest IPL Retirement Admission: ‘As You Grow Older…’ (BCCI/IPL)
“I was thinking if I can play IPL next year. Three months of IPL is a little too much for me. It’s draining. This is one of the reasons why I’m awe-struck by seeing someone like MS Dhoni. As you grow older, the bandwidth to play IPL becomes less,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.
In his retirement post, Ashwin also dropped a hint about playing other cricket leagues around the globe, and even a possible coaching stint in the IPL.
Ashwin made his IPL debut in 2009 with Chennai Super Kings and played 221 matches before retirement. He played for CSK till 2015 before turning up for teams like Rising Super Giants, Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals. Ashwin, the seventh most capped player in the tournament history, picked 187 wickets at an economy of 7.20.
Will MS Dhoni Play IPL 2026?
MS Dhoni has defied odds by playing IPL till now, and he has still not officially retired from the tournament. There are speculations that he may even play the upcoming season to ensure a smooth transition. Dhoni, however, has kept his cards hidden, saying he has enough time to take a call on his career. Dhoni has time and again said he will play his last IPL game at CSK, so who knows, he may have one last dance at the IPL, but his knee injury could be a hinderance.
