Luke Littler makes bizarre ‘retirement’ video as star says ‘I’m taking a step back’

    September 19, 20252 Mins Read

Darts sensation Luke ‘The Nuke’ Littler has stunned fans after posting a mysterious video suggesting he could quit the sport.

The groundbreaking 18 year old shared the footage on social media Thursday, mere days following his loss to Michael van Gerwen at the World Series of Darts.

Littler has transformed darts and mesmerised the broader sporting world since bursting onto the scene aged 17 during the 2024 World Darts Championship.

The Manchester United fan amazed everyone, outperforming his opponents after earning qualification as a wildcard and progressing through the tournament to the final, where Luke Humphries beat him.

However, he claimed his revenge 12 months on as he overcame Humphries at the Alexandra Palace, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Throughout his short career, Littler has already built an extraordinary trophy collection, including the Premier League title, World Series, UK Open and Grand Slam of Darts amongst his accomplishments, alongside a prized world title.

But on Thursday, Littler’s social media post left fans bewildered as he shared a playful video implying that his time at the oche had reached an early conclusion.

With melancholy music accompanying, the Warrington-born player declared: “I’ve had an awesome career, I couldn’t have asked for much better for myself.

“You know it’s been full on for two years, I’ve done many great things, the Premier League at the age of 17 on debut, the nine-darters on tele, winning the World Championships at 18 – the youngest to ever do it.

“I just want to say thanks to all my fans for the support over the last two years, it’s been phenomenal.

“It’ll shock some people that I’m taking a step back, it’s not been an easy decision, now I want to do something that I love.”

As the music begins to play and he leaves his darts behind on the chair, sporting his signature purple shirt, Littler can be heard murmuring: “Do you think they’ll fall for that?”.

One follower replied: “Is this rage bait or what?”.

Another wrote: “Do what you have to do Luke, we will support you all the way bud.”

However, some fans were quick to use their detective skills, piecing together clues to suggest that Littler was teasing his involvement with the new EA Sports FC launch.

Early access for the game begins tomorrow, September 19, before the full release on September 26.
