Bob Mackie worked his magic and came out of retirement to make a bride look like she came straight out of a magazine on her wedding day.
The Emmy award-winning fashion and costume designer, 85, celebrated Jenelle Hamilton’s August 9 wedding by dressing her in his designs. Jenelle is a well-known U.K.-based PR rep who has worked with Bob for over 15 years. That said, it wasn’t a hard choice to find a perfectly created wedding gown.
“He’s family at this point,” Jenelle, who married L.A. lawyer Bart Williams, told Vogue of her relationship with Bob. “It had to be Bob. I just couldn’t envision myself wearing anyone else. If I did choose someone else, I know he would have critiqued it or tried to redesign it for me.”
Jenelle’s vision for her wedding dress was inspired by a previous design of Bob’s, which was featured in an episode of The Cher Show. The California native, who often made designs for the pop icon, chose the fabric for the garment from an archive and “nailed” the first sketch of the design.
“He had encapsulated my personality as his sketches are very personal,” Jenelle continued to the publication. “He was inspired by the original design, but it was really for me. He loves my legs, so he said, ‘I need to put the slit in there.’”

The mermaid-like dress featured a corset top with a floor-length skirt that featured seams of ruffled floral embellishments.
Jenelle got “emotional” during her dress fitting and on her wedding day because Bob created the gown “from the heart.”
The bride, who said “I Do” in the backyard of her Beverly Hills home, was also gifted two gowns from Bob’s archive for her pre-wedding celebrations.
“[Bob] was there with me from the moment I got there, in the car on the way over to the house, and literally was in the room with me before I went down the aisle,” Jenelle explained. “He’s a friend and family.”
