Bond set at $10K for former Columbia school safety officer

    August 28, 20242 Mins Read

COLUMBIA, Miss. (WDAM) – A bond has been set for the former Columbia School District school safety officer after being arrested and charged with voyeurism at the elementary school.

In Marion County Justice Court Wednesday, Judge Donovan McComb set the bond for Tyson Rushing, 22, at $10,000.

During the bond hearing, it was learned that Rushing, a Tylertown native, allegedly filmed or photographed an adult without their consent at Columbia Elementary School.

The judge was worried about the alleged information because while it was not a minor Rushing had filmed, minors still could have been affected or involved since it was at an elementary school.

As a result, McComb has ordered Rushing to not have any contact with minors, firearms, the victim or the victim’s family. He must also remain in Marion and Walthall County.

If the conditions of Rushing’s bond are violated, then it can be revoked and a warrant will be issued for his arrest.

It was also requested that he have an ankle monitor, but the company that provides them is out, so he was not issued one.

In court, prosecutors requested to have no bond set for Rushing and that other unnamed charges should be brought forward.

It was also announced in court that Rushing is no longer employed by the school district.

Rushing’s preliminary hearing is set for Sept. 12 at 9 a.m. at the City of Columbia Justice Court. The maximum penalty for this felony is five years in prison.

    The investigation is ongoing.
