One of the fastest-growing names in fintech is doubling down on New York — with a new headquarters, hundreds of new jobs, and more than $50 million in research and development investment.
Bilt, a housing and neighborhood commerce platform, will lease and renovate 58,000 square feet at 837 Washington Street in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District. The move will create 625 high-paying jobs and retain over 200 current positions. The company’s expansion is backed by up to $6.25 million in performance-based tax credits through the state’s Excelsior Jobs Program.
The new headquarters is expected to open in early 2026.
Investing in innovation — and New York
Founded in 2019 and launched in 2021, Bilt has grown into the country’s largest platform for housing-related spending, serving over 5 million members. The company lets users earn rewards for everyday expenses like rent, dining, travel, and shopping at more than 40,000 neighborhood businesses.
Bilt is valued at over $10.75 billion and on track to process more than $100 billion annually in housing transactions. It also offers free rent reporting to help renters build credit — and has plans to expand into mortgage-related rewards in the future.
The new headquarters will support teams working in AI, engineering, data analytics, and product development. It will also anchor Bilt’s ongoing R&D efforts to improve payment systems, platform security, and user engagement.
Boost for NYC’s fintech sector
Bilt’s expansion adds momentum to New York City’s status as a global fintech hub. Since 2021, fintech jobs in the state have grown by 28% — 14 times the national average — fueled by a mix of talent, capital, and tech-savvy infrastructure.
Community leaders in the Meatpacking District praised the move as a boost to local economic growth and a symbol of the neighborhood’s future.
“This commitment will bring hundreds of high-quality jobs while breathing new life into an iconic neighborhood building,” said Jeffrey LeFrancois, executive director of the Meatpacking District Management Association.
City Councilmember Erik Bottcher added, “Bilt’s new headquarters strengthens New York City’s role as a global leader in fintech innovation.”
