LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A pair of Lincoln brothers lost over $1.36 million in a cryptocurrency scam, police said Friday.

The brothers, ages 76 and 77, reported the scam to the Lincoln Police Department on Wednesday.

But the scheme began in November 2024 when the scammer claimed to invest their money into stocks and cryptocurrency online.

The platform turned out to be fraudulent, according to police.

The fraud was discovered when the stock market dropped, and the brothers tried withdrawing money from the fake accounts.

Police are asking people to “exercise extreme caution” when investing money online.

“If you have a loved one you are concerned about, please talk to them about internet scams,” police said in a press release.
