Droitwich man accused of cryptocurrency fraud due in court

    July 4, 20252 Mins Read

Timothy Barnes, of Charland Court, Droitwich, was due before a Judge on Thursday (July 3).

However, the hearing was postponed by a week and Barnes is now set to appear on Thursday, July 10.

Barnes is alleged to have falsified emails and letters from Lloyds Bank, Santander bank and True Potential Wealth as part of a fraud to persuade people to part with their cash.

Barnes is also charged with the theft of £206,500 belonging to the British Motorcycle Charitable Trust and £1,245 belonging to Morton Wood Residents’ Association.

Worcester Magistrates’ Court was previously told the charges related to Barnes using cryptocurrency and allegedly trying to claw money back.

Lauren Millichip, prosecuting, said there were 39 charges against Barnes.

She said 34 of the alleged offences were fraud by false representation, two charges related to alleged theft and three were for allegedly making or supplying an article for use in fraud.

Barnes, 67, entered no plea to any of the 39 charges when he appeared before magistrates last month and was granted conditional bail.
