A cryptocurrency trader died by suicide during a livestream on X (formerly Twitter) after losing his last $500 in a memecoin investment, according to Binance.com. The man recorded himself making a heartbreaking request to his followers on X in a video of the incident that has gone viral on social media. “If I die, I hope you guys make this into a memecoin,” he said in the clip. Then he placed a small pistol on his head and pulled the trigger multiple times.

The incident has raised discussions about the volatile nature of meme cryptocurrencies and mental health.

While worried viewers flooded the comments wondering if he was okay, other X users reported that the livestream carried on for almost 30 minutes after the pistol went off.

The accuracy of this information could not be independently verified.

Soon after, meme coins bearing the man’s name quickly overtook the market. While some traders criticised the community for its “dystopian” mindset, others hurried to purchase the meme token known as “Mistacoin,” wagering on the excitement.

According to Bitcoin Protocol, the cryptocurrency trader 23-year-old Arnold Robert Haro.

Haro’s family revealed that he was the father of a one-year-old daughter and a GoFundMe account was created to cover the cost of his funeral.

“On February 21, 2025, at just 23 years old, Arnold lost his battle with depression. He leaves behind his 1-year-old daughter, his beloved significant other, his mother and father, and his three sisters, who will forever cherish his memory. Though he carried burdens unseen, he always put others before himself, touching countless lives with his generosity and warmth,” Arnold Robert Haro’s family said via the GoFundMe website.

Since Arnold Robert Haro publicly requested a meme coin in his name and a developer delivered him 70 per cent of the coin’s supply, many have conjectured that the action was a viral hoax that went too far.

For some people, talking about suicides might be upsetting. Suicides can be avoided, though. Sumaitri (located in Delhi) has a suicide prevention helpline number of 011-23389090, while Sneha Foundation (based in Chennai) has a helpline number of 044-24640050.
