This week’s recalls and consumer warnings at America’s largest retailer includes freeze-dried fruit that could contain sharp metal pieces and ready-to-eat pasta meals that may be contaminated with listeria.
The foreign objects that may be in the Tru Fru Freeze Dried products could cause “traumatic injury” to consumers. Meanwhile, possible listeria contamination in Marketside linguine with beef meatballs and marinara sauce could cause serious illness.
With thousands of products on shelves and available online, Walmart serves millions of Americans; 90% of the U.S. population lives within 10 miles of a Walmart store. When a product it sells is recalled, there can be widespread effects.
Labeling mistakes, safety concerns, defects and contamination can all cause recalls on food, prescriptions and other products.
“Walmart and Sam’s Club are committed to the health and safety of our customers and members and to providing products that are safe and compliant, all supported by our health and wellness, product safety, and food safety professionals,” the company said in a statement. “In the event of a product recall, we work swiftly to block the item from being sold and remove it from our stores and clubs.”

Food recalls
Georgia Nut Company (GNC), third-party manufacturer for Tru Fru, LLC issues voluntary recall of specific varieties of Tru Fru freeze dried products due to potential presence of metal in product – This recall is due to the potential presence of hard or sharp metal in Tru Fru Freeze Dried Strawberries in Dark & White Chocolate and Tru Fru Freeze Dried Strawberries & Crème. There have been no known injuries. The product was sold at all Walmart and Sam’s Club stores.
The Hillshire Brands Company recalls corn dog and sausage-on-a-stick products – This recall is due to the potential presence of wood pieces embedded in the batter around the meat. About 58 million pounds of product are part of the recall. These products were sold at all Walmart and Sam’s Club stores.

FSIS issues public health alert for Ready-To-Eat Meals containing pasta that may be contaminated with listeria – This recall includes Marketside linguine with beef meatballs and marinara sauce that could be contaminated with listeria, a bacteria that can cause serious illness. It was sold at all Walmart stores.

Middlefield Original Cheese Co-Op recalls Organic Gouda, Colored Cheddar, Mozzarella/Provolone, Pepper Jack, Swiss, Dilly Pickle Cheese and Monterey Jack due to possible contamination – This recall is due to possible contamination with listeria monocytogenes, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. The products were sold at select Sam’s Clubs in Arkansas, Iowa, Louisiana, Minnesota, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Mexico, South Dakota, Texas and Wisconsin.
Aquastar (USA) Corp recalls Cocktail Shrimp 6oz because of possible health risk – This recall is due to possible contamination with Cs-137, a man-made radioisotope of cesium, which can cause an elevated risk of cancer. The product was sold at Walmart stores in Alaska, Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington and Wisconsin.
Taylor Fresh Foods recalls Taylor Farms Honey Balsamic Salad Kit 6/8.3oz – This recall is due to undeclared sesame and soy in the premade salads. The products were sold at Walmart stores in Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Missouri, Mississippi, New Jersey, New York, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and West Virginia.
Blue Bell issues allergy alert for incorrectly packaged Moo-llennium Crunch Ice Cream – This alert results from undeclared almonds, walnuts and pecans in Moo-llennium Crunch Ice Cream was incorrectly packaged. The product is in Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough half gallon cartons with a Moo-llennium Crunch Ice Cream lid. It was sold in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.
FDA advises public not to eat, sell, or serve certain imported frozen shrimp from an Indonesian firm – This recall is due to possible contamination with Cesium-137. The products were sold at Walmart stores in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas and West Virginia.

DermaRite Industries expands voluntary nationwide recall due to potential burkholderia cepacia contamination – This recall includes moisturizers, deodorants, hand sanitizers and more.
