A video of devotees touching the top of a metal detector at a temple has received attention on social media for showing how a seemingly random action turned into a collective ritual.
X user Deepesh Patel shared the video with the caption, “Someone must have once touched the top to shoo away a fly, and since then, people have made it a tradition to touch it.”
In the clip, devotees can be seen touching a hand symbol blinking red on the metal detector before walking through it. What stood out to viewers was that every single person repeated the same action, almost mechanically, without questioning why it was being done.
As the camera rolls, one devotee after another stretches their hand to tap the top of the metal detector, even as security checks continue as usual. The uniformity of the gesture made the scene look less like a security procedure and more like an unwritten ritual being followed out of habit.
