Speaking exclusively to RadioTimes.com about how Carrigan has brought the villain to life, Stephanie Beatriz, who plays Quiet on the show, teased: “He’s a brilliant actor – I would call him a transformative actor. And he is incredibly funny.
“His comedic timing just fits the world so brilliantly, but at the same time, he can be absolutely terrifying. To me, he is the perfect Calypso, because he’s really incredibly charming – dare I say, a little sexy – but real weird.”
Beatriz added: “The way that Anthony’s playing him is really otherworldly. It seems almost as if he’s slightly outside of the world of Twisted Metal, and yet he’s pulling all the strings. He’s kind of the puppet master of season 2.”
While Calypso’s arrival has been heavily teased, Beatriz also revealed that there are plenty more surprises in store for fans that love the game.
“There are so many characters from the games that die-hard fans of the game are going to be really, really excited to see – characters like Mr Grimm, Vermin, Axel, obviously, Calypso.
“There are tons of surprises for fans of the original game and the IP – but there’s also stuff that really just uses the game as a jumping off point in season 2. Season 2 is really diving into the demolition derby vibe of the original games.”
As for the actual Twisted Metal contest? Beatriz has a menacing warning: “This is a way for people’s dreams to come true, but if you’re a fan of the games, you also know that your dreams might not come true in the way that you necessarily want them to.”
She added: “I think in terms of upping the stakes, there’s a ton more cars. The cars are central character in the show. There’s so much more time spent in the cars and watching the cars fight each other, and watching how the characters who drive these cars connect to their vehicles, and what happens when they win or lose them.”
Season 2 will pick up with John (Mackie) and Quiet (Beatriz) as they risk everything to compete in the brutal demolition derby.
Twisted Metal season 2 is available to stream on Paramount Plus.
