Anthony Carrigan should be no stranger to fans of genre media. He’s stacked up a trio of DC comics roles, as Kyle Nimbus/The Mist in The Flash (2014), Victor Zsasz in Gotham, and most recently as Metamorpho in James Gunn’s Superman. Of course, in the last role he’s barely recognizable.
While hunting for an ancient artifact the character, originally human, was exposed to cosmic radiation and changed. When we meet Metamorpho in Lex Luthor’s pocket universe prison he’s a mashed-up collection of elemental materials, capable of transforming himself into any known compound. In the real world, Carrigan went through a serious transformation himself to become the character. Becoming Metamorpho required between 5 and 6 hours in the makeup chair, applying an assortment of prosthetics, practical effects, and pigments.
“It’s things that were glued on me, but then they painted on detail, and then more things were glued onto that,” Carrigan told Entertainment Weekly. “I’m not kidding when I say that I was glued in, I was sewn in, I was completely enveloped. I was tied in…roped in, basically. But all in service of this incredible costume.”
Now Carrigan is transforming again to deliver one of the most bombastic performances in recent memory, as the maniacal maestro of mayhem, Calypso, in season 2 of Twisted Metal.

The rules are simple: choose your vehicle and show how good you are by defeating everyone else. The last one standing wins, and Calypso is the master of ceremonies.
Losing the contest means almost certain death, but if you win Calypso will grant you a single wish, whatever your heart desires. Of course, a deal with Calypso is like wishing on a monkey’s paw. You’ll get what you ask for, but the odds are you won’t be happy. Cardigan got to stretch his superhero muscles as Metamorpho in Superman, but we get to see him in full villain mode as the host of the deadliest demolition derby in history.
Twisted Metal season 2 hits Peacock with a three-episode season premiere July 31, 2025.
