If you’ve been vibing with the first two seasons of the post-apocalyptic Peacock series Twisted Metal, you’ll be pleased to learn that there’s another season on the way. The streamer has officially renewed the program for a third season. The caveat is that co-creator and showrunner Michael Jonathan Smith will depart the series, with David Reed (Star Trek: Strange New Worlds) taking over as showrunner.
The series has been a hit for the streamer, suggesting that Smith’s departure has nothing to do with the program’s performance. In fact, season two has racked up 993 million minutes viewed to date, making it the second-most-watched returning season of a scripted series for the streamer to date.
The proceedings combine violent action with dark comedy, following amnesia-afflicted deliveryman John Doe as he’s offered the chance to deliver a package in exchange for a shot at a better life.
Peacock hasn’t yet announced a targeted release date for season three at this point. With that said, it’s likely that the third season will hit the air in late 2026 or early 2027.
The program, which is based on the popular PlayStation game series of the same name, stars Anthony Mackie, Stephanie Beatriz, Joe Seanoa, and Will Arnett.
