Janet Storey, from near Pentre Halkyn, was described as a “dedicated part” of the society, which organises the annual Denbigh and Flint County Show, and which she was a part of for more than four decades.
A statement from the society on October 30 read: “It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our long-standing member, Janet Storey.
“Janet has been a dedicated part of our society for over 45 years, contributing tirelessly in a wide range of roles, from vice chairman of the society, to chairman of both the catering and horticulture sections. Many will also fondly remember her as our show day president in 2022.
“Janet’s enthusiasm and wisdom left an enduring mark on everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.
“And, of course, she will always be remembered for her wonderful and lavish hats that brightened every show she attended.
“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Janet’s family and friends at this difficult time.”
Many others took to Facebook to share their own personal tributes to Ms Storey.
Linda Brooks-Roberts described her as “hard-working” and “straight-talking,” as well as being a “long-standing supporter of the show”.
She added: “Janet always gave her full backing to her sections and to her stewarding, bringing her many years of catering knowledge into managing the stands on the day and the sometimes tricky environmental health officers visiting them.
“Her fabulous hats were always a sight for sore eyes in the vice presidents’ enclosure and her enthusiasm will be much missed.
“Kindest thoughts go to her daughter, Sarah, and other family at this time.”
Joanne McDowell said Ms Storey was “so hard-working” and “a stalwart” for the Denbigh and Flint Show.
She said: “She was always there to help and was always good for a giggle.
“I am so glad I got to spend time with her this year at the show. She will be deeply missed by all.”
Ceri Brooks added: “Janet was such a lovely lady; I didn’t know her very well, but she always took time to stop for a chat and I was always touched that she remembered me.
“My deepest sympathies to her family. She will be so missed.”
