Perdue Foods LLC is recalling approximately 167.171 pounds of frozen chicken that may have metal embedded in it.
The Maryland-based company announced in a release Friday that foreign material was found in a “limited number of consumer packages,” specifically metal wire. There have been no reports of injury from the products, Perdue said, which the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) said were shipped nationwide.
“We determined the material to be a very thin strand of metal wire that was inadvertently introduced into the manufacturing process,” said Jeff Shaw, senior vice president of food safety and quality for Perdue. “Out of an abundance of caution, we decided to voluntarily recall all of these packages of products.”
Anyone with these products in their home should return them or contact Perdue for a refund but do not eat them, the company said. All the products have “P-33944” on the back of the package.
Perdue Foods investigated after receiving consumer complaints about metal wire stuck in the foods, the USDA said.
