Best friend Bill Baker – who was presiding for the last time as chairman of the SAA at its AGM on Tuesday (February 24) – said Peter had dedicated most of his adult life to the organisation.
He wanted to convey the SAA’s “heartfelt appreciation for all that Peter did for us”.
“He was a passionate supporter of this association,” he said.
“Peter has left us with so many happy memories of his time spent with us and we’ll all greatly miss his presence.

“He has earnt his place in the esteemed list of Suffolk Show greats and he’ll never be forgotten by us.”
He was “instrumental” in setting up the SAA’s commercial arm – Trinity Park Events Ltd – 20 years ago to make full use of the charity’s estate and enable it to generate income through the year.
He was “master of the microphone”, presiding as compere at SAA events including the show dinner, he said.
“He did that with his own unique style of humour and skill. Similarly he hosted the awards dinner with equal aplomb,” he said, adding that he would be remembered for his “huge contribution to the Suffolk Show”.
“He was a great communicator and had a unique skill of making people feel incredibly welcome. Everyone loved him. He especially loved to see the younger generation getting involved.”
He introduced the show’s mascot race and got the crowds “at fever pitch” as the costumed contestants set off, he recalled.
The SAA was working on a new award in his memory, he said.
