State agriculture leaders met with members of the Schenectady County Food Council this afternoon.
Commissioner Richard Ball met with community members to address key issues in Schenectady County relating to agriculture, food insecurity, and hunger prevention.
“I was not surprised but I was pleased to see the parallel tracks that everyone in the farm community, along with the state agency, along with the incentives and initiatives that we have going on in New York State,” said Commissioner Ball.” We learned that we need not just the farming but also the food manufacturing capacity to deliver the crops and the products in a way that families can use them.”
The meeting also discussed the urban farming land initiative which is waiting for the governor’s signature, grant opportunities, and ways to collaborate with food organizations around the state.
