Private sector urged to support Ghana’s agricultural growth at Agritech West Africa 2025

    September 19, 20253 Mins Read

The Government of Ghana is urging increased private sector involvement in agricultural development efforts, particularly in support of national policies such as the Feed Ghana programme.

The call was made during the opening of the 4th edition of the Agritech West Africa exhibition, held in Accra, as part of a broader push to accelerate growth and sustainability in the country’s agriculture sector.

The event brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and exhibitors from around the world, with participating countries including India, Turkey, Nigeria, Ghana, China, Spain, the UK, Italy, and France.

The exhibition showcased a diverse array of products and solutions, ranging from agrochemicals and modern agricultural technologies to irrigation systems, biofeeds, food processing and packaging innovations, and value-added food and beverage products.

Organized as a hub for agricultural innovation and trade, Agritech West Africa 2025 highlighted the importance of cross-border collaboration and private investment in driving the sector forward. It also served as a platform for stakeholders to explore opportunities to enhance food production, adopt sustainable practices, and expand agribusiness operations across the region.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Director in charge of Crops Services at the Ministry of Food and Agriculture Harry Bleppony emphasized that private sector participation is critical to the success of initiatives aimed at improving food security, boosting productivity, and reducing the country’s reliance on food imports.

“The Ministry of Food and Agriculture is spearheading government’s Agriculture for Economic Transformation Agenda through its flagship Feed Ghana Programme. The programme has the objective of ensuring national food security, promotion of value addition, increasing raw material supply to agro-processing industries and expanding agricultural exports. This will require public private and public-private investments”, he said.

Project Director of Agritech West Africa at Synergice Events, Thomas James said the exhibition provides an avenue for players in the industry to find ways to enhance its growth.

“The event is very much in line with the development goals of the Ghana government’s commitment to value-added agriculture to the national economy and targeted food security”, he mentioned.

The presence and commitment of international partners, such as India, further underscored the strategic importance of global partnerships in supporting Ghana’s agricultural tr
