Babergh District Council has officially granted planning permission for two agricultural barns to be converted and extended into a home in Copdock.
The decision was made on Tuesday and the applicant will now have three years to complete the works at Rookery Barn in Wenham Road.
Planning documents state: “The proposal delivers the optimal viable re-use of a historic rural building, securing its long-term conservation, boosting the district’s housing supply and achieving high environmental performance.”
The works proposed comprise the conversion of a redundant barn to a four-bedroom dwelling, retaining the historic frame and open volumes where possible.
A single storey link is proposed, which will connect on to the neighbouring more modern barn, which itself will also be converted.
Pre-application advice was sought from the council with a meeting held in November last year.
A conversion of the existing structure was the option deemed most likely to be supported at the time.
