Octopus Energy offers ‘free electricity’ and more – but it’s only available to some

    October 17, 20253 Mins Read

Octopus Energy is offering some of its customers a wide array of perks and freebies if eligible billpayers take part in its rewards scheme – and they could save 17% on their annual costs

One major British energy firm is offering customers the chance to receive a wide variety of rewards, including free electricity, added credit onto your account, and other ‘freebies’. Octopus allows eligible customers to take part in its ‘Octoplus’ rewards scheme; however, it’s only available to some billpayers.

The energy firm confirmed that last year that customers taking part in the rewards scheme had access to over £300 worth of rewards. This, in turn, helped them save the equivalent of 17% on their annual energy costs, when compared to a typical bill at the time.

In order to be eligible for the reward programme, customers must first have a smart meter for electricity installed into their homes. If you don’t have one already but want to take part in the scheme, you can ask Octopus directly to install a smart meter into your home by asking to be added onto the interest list.

The Octopus website highlights: “Octoplus is a loyalty scheme that helps you earn Octopoints that you can use for all sorts of benefits, from money off your energy bills to enjoying exclusive perks like free coffees, discount codes and prize giveaways.”

Read below for a full breakdown of all the benefits you can get from the reward programme.

What rewards and freebies are on offer?

Octoplus provides a wide variety of benefits and freebies for those taking part; however, some of these benefits and freebies can only be received by fulfilling certain criteria. For example, the energy firm can provide free electricity to customers but only when taking part in Free Electricity Sessions.

Customers are usually invited to take part in these sessions when the grid is ‘greenest’. While the electricity you’d normally use will cost the same in these sessions, any extra power you use will be free and credited back into your account

Other benefits and freebies on Octoplus include:

    • Earn points during Saving Sessions which can be turned into money off your bill
    • Free drink from Cafe Nero or Greggs each week
    • One free movie every month on Rakuten TV
    • Two for £8 at Vue cinemas as well as 15% off food and drink
    • 2-4-1 ticket and free child tickets at some zoos
    • All you can eat breakfast for £4.99 at Toby Carvery and Stonehouse
    • 25% off at Harvester, Stonehouse, Toby Carvery or Sizzling pubs
    • Free iced coffee from Greggs

In the past, Octoplus members were able to get cheap electric blankets at Dreamland as well as discounted electronics from AO. While these are no longer in place, similar offers may be added for members in the future.

    How to apply to Octoplus

Before applying for Octoplus, customers must ensure that they have their electricity supplied by Octopus Energy, have an electricity smart meter sending half-hourly readings, and pay via Direct Debit. Following this, you can sign up for Octoplus through your Octopus Energy account here.

Otherwise you can sign up for Octoplus through the app available on iOS and Android devices.
